What a ridiculous state of affairs.

What the Tories did not tell you.

This is surely a CON-DEM Nation
                                                                             By George Savva

If I was to even buy the smallest bar of chocolate, even a loaf of bread or even a packet of Corn Flakes then even if I was spend less than £3.00.  Pounds at least I would have the information on the outside of the packet giving me details of the contents etc.

But no  you  will not be given the information when in our lifetime most of us will spend the biggest amount of money   in buying a house.

The Labour government have introduced HIPS for specific reasons but the Conservatives only after two weeks in power will abolish HIPS (home information packs) because as they believe it takes a long time for the process to finalise the contract.
I am sure now everyone will rush to buy or sell houses   in this economic crisis and the government are not doing anyone any favours.

So if you buy a house now you will more or less be denied to have the information on what exactly you are buying but no detail information unless you the buyer, want to know and pay for the costs not the seller .

In  other  words the system by this Government is equally so if you buy a loaf of bread or chocolate or Corn Flakes you will need to pay extra to get the information of what is in the content. It does work like that.

Happy  days are ahead with the odd couple in power in a marriage that will surely end in divorce before the honeymoon is over.

There are signs of course which suggest that just. Have you noticed the uneasiness of Clegg sitting in the House of Commons next to  Cameron.

Have you noticed the worry expressed from some Tory back benchers who just cannot stomach either Cameron or Clegg, even the Tories have their doubts over the coalition.

I do admit and give credit to the Labour Government for introducing the Home Information Pack Scheme (HIPS) which enables and gives the buyer the right to receive a comprehensive report on what the stae of the property.

Imagine young couples buying the on a restricted budget and find out that the house will need further repair works of all sorts. The excuse the Con? /Dem Coalition gave and in my opinion it is a very poor excuse is that it will speed up the process of the selling and buying.

Of course the surveyor will do a check on the house on behalf of the buyer and or the building Society or Bank but the HIPS expenses is paid for by the seller.

The other losers are of courses those from working class backgrounds who have studied the HIPS and Home Energy Efficiency Courses at very high tuition fees, taking loans, only to see that what they have studied is no longer required.
No Mr Cameron and Mr Clegg you will be kicked out sooner rather than later as you have let down the businesses on this field and the many poor students who may be faced with unemployment and I for one deplore the way this Right wing CON/DEM coalition will leads us to biblical economic disasters.

There may be many surprises or rather many shocks and bumpy rides  ahead and as I said prior to the May 6th elections brace yourselves for a very uncomfortable ride if the Tories win. The Tories have not won of course but the coalition must be seen as nightmare for the nation.

You cannot blame the right wing newspapers now for urging people to vote Tory but there are signs now the people are not happy at all the way the coalition started.
In the hope that people will forget the drastic and unfair measures the Con/Dem have taken so far surely cannot be forgotten as families will remember as a result of the hardships this right wing government have inflicted to working and middle classes ranks of this country.

When Cameron speaks it will be good to have a screen showing  real statistics just to prove how wrong he is and what inaccuracies he is serving the people of this country.

It shows how desperate they are.

Even if they get the right wing support of the press the real issue remains that Cameron will take us to the Thacherite policies

 News Release from Andy Love

For immediate release…

26 April 2010

Andy Love endorses reprimand

from Conservatives to local candidate

over scaremongering leaflets

Edmonton’s Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Andy Love has endorsed the reprimand issued by the Conservative Party to their local candidate on Friday for his use of scaremongering leaflets containing completely bogus statistics.

The leaflet in question – which has drawn both local and national attention in the media and online – featured a shocking image of a machete dripping in blood, accompanied by the stark claim in very large print stating “VIOLENT CRIME UP 44% UNDER LABOUR.”

It was criticised by Conservative Party Chair Eric Pickles and, according to Friday’s Evening Standard, a Conservative spokesperson stated, “The leaflet was withdrawn immediately and Mr Charalambous was reprimanded.”  The incident was also reported in the Saturday edition of the Mirror.

The scaremongering figure is not sourced, nor does it specify which location it relates to, but it appears to be based on statistics used earlier this year by the Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Grayling, comparing national trends in violent crime over two incomparable time periods.

At the time, Chris Grayling was rebuked for statistical manipulation by the UK Statistics Authority who stated, “The selective quotation of one [set of statistics] without regard to the other could prove misleading.”  Andy wrote to inform the Authority that the Conservatives had not heeded their advice and were once again propagating mistruths.

Official figures from the British Crime Survey show that serious crime is actually down 41 percent from 1997, not up by 44 percent.

Commenting on the reprimand, Andy said…

“It was absolutely the right course of action for the Conservative Party to officially reprimand their local candidate for his use of bogus figures in scaremongering leaflets.

“I only wish it had come sooner, or, better still, that the candidate himself had realised that perpetuating totally inaccurate and bogus statistics in the hopes of being elected is completely unacceptable.

“I’m proud of the fact that Labour’s investment in policing has led to a marked downward trend in crime, especially violent crime, and I want the public to be aware of that, instead of being frightened by made up figures.”

Ends…

VOTE LABOUR ON THURSDAY   6TH MAY 2010
To help this Country  Go Forward.

                      By George  A Savva

The Labour Government are committed to help end the recession and help businesses and people get back to work by investing £60 million back into the economy.

The Conservatives are planning if they ever get to power to take that away   from the economy leaving businesses to sink or swim as they have done in the past under Thatcher and Major.

The Labour Government have committed themselves to help the NHS provide an even better service enabling people to get the treatment as soon as possible at specialists hospital not having to wait for over two years for an operation.

A brand new wing will be up and running in June 2010 at the North Middlesex Hospital where the government have invested heavily.

Waiting lists have been reduced because people get the help and treatment within six weeks not 2 years when it was under the Tories.

But the Tories may tell us one thing that they care when in fact their agenda is to encourage people to get Private Care leaving the NHS to suffer and those who rely on it.

Gordon Brown and the Labour Government have given a new boost to NHS by employing 38,000 doctors and 95,000 nurses.
Have given a £90 billion investment   in the NHS over the last few years.

The Labour Government have reduced the classroom sizes from 35 under Thatcher and the Conservatives to fewer than 30 and in some cases 28

No more leaky roofs at schools as the government have given funds to local councils to spend it on repairs.

But let us have a look at local level. For example in Enfield during the  Labour administration from 1994 and up to 2002 no less than 4 new schools were built.
At a time when parents are given a place at the school of their choice one would have thought that the highest of priorities is to build new schools.

I have been critical of this Tory administration in Enfield on the lack of proper planning and vision.

Prior to 1994 the Conservatives closed at least two schools one of them was Minchenden.

But from 2002 till now where the Conservatives are in power up to now, they have not built a single school but to the contrary they have closed a library.

What promises have the Tories or the Lib Dem given.

Apart from attacking Gordon   Brown nothing much.

Oh, em sorry I forgot they will give to 3.000 millionaires a £200,000  tax benefit.
Of course Cameron is not a pro European and he has no friends in Europe apart from the Check Republic. This leaves me   to ask where will Cyprus find support in Europe if God forbid the Conservatives take control.

And the Lib Dems will take us back to the early 50s and 60s where people needed visas to travel.

Voting for the Conservatives and the Lib Dems will truly be a waste of vote and a vote against Cyprus.

Since the Tories have launched their manifesto they have even had time to wake up the average working class person’s racial instincts by mentioning the immigration and the refugees. Are they BNP in disguise?

During the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus it was local Labour authorities who helped a large number of families seeking help and shelter when they fled the troubled island.

But let us have a look at what is happening today in Enfield   and what mess they have brought themselves and the borough into.

I have mentioned in the past Enfield’s vision and I will not mentioned  many things apart from when  we were asking for a two year council tax freeze on the increase they called us all sorts of names which prompted the opposition Labour Group to conduct a campaign with petitions and heated  discussions at Council.

When Labour is in power after May 6th we will freeze the Council Tax increase for two years.

                                                  DIVIDED ENFIELD

For Edmonton and the East part of the Borough very little but for Enfield Town and the Forty Hall everything.

They closed a library in Edmonton and they spent £8 million  in Enfield Town .

We were  asking  for a youth club and what they have done was to spent money in Forty hall.
They have closed youth clubs and they have not encouraged anyone to come forward and be trained as youth leaders.

Thanks to the Labour Government but not to Enfield Council £3.03 million has been given to built a state of the Art Youth Club in the most deprived area of Edmonton.

Labour are promising

Two year council tax freeze

A £100 Council Tax rebate for the over 65s

A pilot scheme to give primary children free school meals.

Youth workers to tackle anti social behaviour.

Cleaning streets and combat anti social behaviour.
Where possible to install alley gates.

Labour has achieved dos much let us not throw that away

For families

Families have received unprecedented support through the introduction

 of
Child Trust Funds, Sure Start, Working families Tax Credits, Extended Maternity Leave, £190 Health –In-Pregnancy grant , A free nursery place for every 3 and 4 year- old

The Conservatives voted against Labour’s help for families and they already have plans to take that away fro the families.

For Older People

Labour has transformed the lives of older people through the introduction      of

Winter Fuel Allowance, Pension Credit and year-on-year increase pensions, Free Bus Travel, Free Eye Tests and prescriptions, Free TV licenses, Free Swimming
Increase Cold Weather Payments

The Conservatives do not really care and will leave pensioners suffer as they did in the 1980s The Conservatives have opposed much of Labour’s support for the elderly.

At the polling station you will be given two ballot papers One for the local elections White colour ballot paper you have 3 votes.

The other ballot paper cream colour for the General elections one vote

And In Edmonton Vote for Andy Love

In Enfield Southgate for Bambos Charalambous

In Enfield North               Joan Ryan

Every vote has 3 votes for the local election on the white ballot paper.

One vote on the cream ballot poare for the General Elections.

For example in Haselbury ward the Labour candidates for the Local Elections are ALI Bakir on number 1 X

FROM

   George  A. Savva M.B.E.

Brief introduction

                 www.haselburyward.com

My name is George Savva and I have been serving as a councillor for 23 years, representing the same ward for just as many years. The old ward had the name Huxley and following the boundary changes it was renamed Haselbury ward in 2002.

Since  I was elected I have had my majority increased to more than double and the majority of votes in my favour is ever increasing.

I am married with 4 grown up sons and 3 granddaughters.

Have studied at the London College of Fashion in Oxford Street  in  the West End of London , have attended the local College and studied history and the life of Martin Luther King.  Have attended a number of training seminars around crime prevention, local services  for the elderly and the work around involving the young generation in local affairs and their participation in the decision making mechanism.

Was involved in a number of projects locally .

I am a member of the GMB union and prior to that a member of TGWU

Also a member of the Labour and  CO OP  movement.

Since 1979 and ever since,  I have been involved in campaigns for local services to be improved and fought  against closures  and cut backs of public services .

Fought against the closure of the radiotherapy unit at North Mid and collected thousands of signatures for a community centre to be set up and succeeded having the Community House  at 311, Fore Street N18.

Served as chair of the Property Services Sub Committee at Enfield, on the main education committee and many other committees and was resoponsible for the introduction of the two hour free parking in shopping centres such as Southgate Edmonton Green,, Enfield Town , which helped towards the regenaration of these areas.

Campaigned for safety improvements in our community and I have asked for extra police patrols in the Ward.

The most recent campaign was the fight against the closure of Weir Hal Library. where I  have made career sacrifices to spend  my time on the fight against the closure of Weir Hall Library, where it is hoped one day will  be reinstated. 10.000 signatures were collected and were presented to no 10 Downing Street. As a result  we managed  at least to save  Millfield Theatre which is adjacent to Weir Hall Library.

The community rallied behind me to have the library saved and I will like to thank all those people known and unknown who have offered help in every way they could. A big thank you to All.

Within Millfield Arts Complex there is space to have a library and the disused warehouses along the car park on the left as you enter the Complex where these can easily be turned into a local service such as the much needed library.

Thanks should also go to the local press for their interest and radio stations and television for covering the campaign and other  of our activities in the community.

One local television company even covered the meeting of the Area Forum where we had 250 people present. I shall continue to campaign for better facilities for all in the community ,for better services for the youth and for the elderly.

Currently I am pushing for a further new residential home to be built to cater for the  increasing ageing population.

Am pushing the local council to explore the possibility of starting a youth club at either within the Millfield Arts Complex or within the Klinger Hall Estate .

Have campaigned for the Glady's Aylward Plaque to be replaced since  the plaque went missing in December 2008. The Enfield Society and The Gladys Aylward School will be paying towards the cost s.   The plaque will be put up in  January  2010.

Will like to see as many of you as possible attending the  1 year Vigil since the closure of Weir Hall Library

This 1 year Vigil will take plae on Saturday 19th December 2009 from 0.00 a.m.  till 2.00. p.m.  We will be having mince pies and malt Wine.  All are welcome. The campaign will continue until we get our library back.

No one in their right minds closes a library and turns it into a bistro. Unless of course your name is Mike Rye and Mike Laneder serving as leader and deputy leader in the Tory controlled Enfield Council.

Enough is Enough. Time for them to go I say.

I am serving as a member  on the Firs Farm Governing body since 1985. Served for many years as a governor at Winchmore and Edmonton County schools including Oaktree Special school.

SAME OLD TORY SAME OLD STORY

Friend -

I wasn't intending to write to you tonight - but that was before David Cameron's dog whistle comments during tonight's debate.

In a discussion about immigrant workers, he said 1.2 million "illegal immigrants" would flood the country, and that they'd demand "access to welfare and access to council housing".

What does that sound like to you? David Cameron keeps telling us he's changed, but this is a tactic straight out of the Tories' old campaign book.

It's the same old Tories and we can't let it stand. Take a moment now to get the word out: Cameron's party is the same old nasty Conservative Party that is for fear first, people last.

http://sameoldtories.com/dogwhistle

The policy of regularising immigrants' status - ensuring they operate under the law, and pay their share in tax - is a moderate policy backed by politicians across the board, including Tory Mayor Boris Johnson.

But with an election on, Cameron is getting dirty. We can't let this go - please help get the word out: the Tories haven't changed.

Neal

Unions Together

Friend,

Today is crunch time.

Thanks to each of you who have helped this campaign in so many ways - whether by calling voters, knocking on doors, signing petitions or sending us pictures. You have helped make a difference.

But after the weeks of campaigning, today is the day that really matters - polling day, because it's at the ballot box that we will really make a difference.

That's why I'm asking you to do one simple thing - ask your friends, family and workmates to get to the polling station and ask them to vote Labour, for all our futures.

The election today is going to be really tight, and every vote will count.

Vote Labour today

Today is about making a choice - tomorrow will be about living with it.

Ofsted report blasts poor management at Worcesters Primary School, which was set for expansion

THE MANAGEMENT of a school which was set for expansion has been labelled “inadequate” by school inspectors.

Worcesters Primary School, in Goat Lane, was earmarked by Enfield Council for expansion this year.

The council had conducted feasibility and traffic studies in the area after proposing to add one new class to every year group.

But the school was classed as needing “significant improvement in relation to leadership and management” by inspectors and given a notice to improve, according to an Ofsted report published last week.

The report praised the school for having a “very positive” atmosphere, but said that academic achievement and teaching standards had declined since the last inspection.

Inspectors visited 21 lessons with 18 teachers, and criticised teachers for spending too much time talking.

They said the "pace of learning is too slow” and the assessment of pupil’s progress is not rigorous enough.

The school was given minimum ratings of 4 for overall effectiveness and capacity for improvement.

A headteacher, Pauline Berry, has now replaced Ann Cable who left in Easter.

She is still headteacher at Carterhatch Junior school, but will spend 80 per cent of her time working at Worcesters, according to a letter sent to parents.

The mother of an 8-year-old pupil, who did not want to be named, said: "I was really shocked, I didn't think it was that bad. The children seem quite happy there, the teachers were quite attentive. There was nothing in his reports to say my son wasn't doing well enough."

Some parents, who were against the plans to expand the school, had welcomed the news as they hope is means the expansion plans will now be permanently dropped.

Rob Baldwin said the news “helps our campaign”.

Mr Baldwin, whose five-year-old is at the school, organised a campaign of about 135 letters of protest from parents on the grounds of loss of space and distruption.

The school has 477 pupils on its roll, and is was “much larger” than most other primary schools, according to the Oftsed report.

The proportion of pupils who speak English as an additional language is also higher than average.

Enfield Council said the Oftsed result meant its expansion plans had been put "on hold".

Number of rejected ballot papers: 35

Turnout was:  61.22%
