FRIENDS OF WEIR HALL LIBRARY
LATEST FROM THE LOCAL AREA
Selling of Millfield Theatre and Arts Complex?
Stop them.
When the closure of Weir Hall Library by the Tory controlled Enfield Council took place, sixteen months ago, at the same time the future of the Millfield Arts Complex was also sealed.( Millfield House, the surrounding grounds, the bistro, Millfield Theatre, and the bar) all have been put on the line to be sold.
Edmonbotn say to the Conservatives Enough is Enough
KICK THE TORIES OUT
The council with its Tory leader who is doing everything possible in ruining Edmonton and by giving as much help as possible to Enfield Town and the affluent west of the borough will not hesitate to sell the Millfield Complex the only remaining place where local people can meet.
Stop the Closure and the selling of Millfield Arts Complex
On May the 6th local elections and possibly national give all your votes to the Labour Candidates to stop the Tory vandals from inflicting a further wound into the community.
Enough damage has been done during the last 8 years of Conservative rule in Enfield and one look around the streets in Edmonton, shows the sheer neglect in this area by this council.
Streets full of potholes and litter, uneven and dangerous pavements, street lighting in many roads has not been properly connected for months.
We are urging people to support Labour as this will stop the Tories from carrying out their plans to leave us without any services whatsoever.
This is not by any means a political statement but the facts as they stand today.
The choice now rests with the people who have had to put up with a lot of abuse from the Tories.
The power now rests with the people, to let the council know what we really think of their unworkable policies at the expense of the people in our area.
Enough is enough as the time has come for people of Enfield to kiss goodbye to the Tories or we may risk kissing goodbye to our services if they are allowed to have another year of Tory policies which will only lead to cutbacks and closures.
We need our Library back and we will like to see a youth provision and services for the elderly improved.
Many are the families whose children have not had a place at the school of their choice because the council lacked vision and proper planning.
The Government have given millions to the local council but the council chose to spend it on refurbishing the Carnegie Library in Enfield to the tune of £9 million and leaving Edmonton and our area with no services.
Some of the achievements were down to the sheer hard work by local campaigners along with our local councilors.
Let us not have a repeat of the last 8 years ever again.

Yet with no sense of shame the Tory candidate has set his campaign office only 100 metres from the site of Weir Hall Library where it once stood.
What an audacity and lack of any sense of sensitivity where the Conservatives are adding insut to wound.
The people of Edmonton will never forget as they want their Libary back.
Is the Conservative candidate going to work in getting the lIbary back. The answer of course is no as he is heavily backed by the Tories in Enfield who they seem to be united but the cracks among their ranks are begining to show as there is some disapporval of the Tory Candidate's actibvities in general in Edmonton
YOUR HASELBURY WARD ACTION TEAM CLLR GEORGE SAVVA M.B.E. ANDY LOVE M.P. PATRICIA ECKECHI, ALI BAKIR. ONE YEAR VIGIL 19/12/09 Time 10.00 A.M TILL 2.00 P.M. SILVER STREET N18.
SINCE THE CLOSURE OF WEIR HALL LIBRARY opposite Gladys Aylward school The closure of Weir Hall Library back in December 2008 left the community without any facility in the area and many school children without a library within walking distance to gain access to books and or reference material. School children of all ages were denied a valuable service they were so accustomed to and used the library for a number of reasons, and even between exams they found refuge there. Despite the 10.000 strong signatures PETITION and countless discussions Enfield Council ignored the calls for consultation and a dialogue to review this ill thought proposal. In addition to this Enfield Council with the agreement of Tory leader Mike Rye and his deputy Mike Lavender decided to rub insult to wound to turn a much loved and used library where many school children found refuge and help, Enfield Council decided to turn it into a bistro. Yes into a bistro. Our argument is that a library is needed in this area and in fact there is ample space to introduce a library within the Millfield Arts Complex. The derelict buildings (once used as warehouses) within the Millfield Arts complex are perfect for a library and it is such a shame the Council did not see the potential to keep the library going at this part of the borough. Our campaign is to continue until we get our library back. No matter how long it takes. Please come along on Saturday the 19th December 2009 from 10.00 a.m. till 2.00. p.m. or for as long as you can stay, and join us in our fight and struggle for equality and fairness. We will be outside the site where Weir Hall Library stood for so many years and served so many people. We will be having mince pies and Mulled Wine. The press will be there around 11.30. a.m.
PLEASE TURN UP ON SATURDAY 19 DECEMBER FROM 10.00 A.M AND GIVE US YOUR SUPPORT
